Here, a strip of bars like Blue Mango Bar, Haze, and Smooth Coffee thrum with live music most nights, offering a vibrant atmosphere for those seeking an after-dark adventure.
Accommodation options have blossomed to cater to all budgets and tastes. Whether you seek a more luxurious resort or a cozy guesthouse, you’ll find the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring.
And explore you will! Moalboal boasts a prime location, putting the best of Cebu within easy reach. All of the most stunning waterfalls, from Kawasan Falls to hidden gems like Dao Falls and Inambakan Falls, are a scenic moped ride away. Hikers will find a number of challenging and rewarding trails nearby, offering breathtaking views of the island.

The majority of individuals I encounter in Moalboal tend to only schedule 2 or 3 days here to witness the sardine run and experience Kawasan canyoneering. However, there’s so much more to explore beyond these activities. One could easily spend an entire week discovering new adventures in the southern region of Cebu.
🚌 How to get to Moalboal, Cebu
From Cebu City take a white-metered taxi to the South Bus Terminal for about 150 PHP and board a public yellow Ceres bus. Upon arriving at the South Bus Terminal, use Entrance 2. Purchase your ticket at the ticket counter for an air-conditioned bus and then head to Door 4. While there is no official bus schedule, buses depart approximately every 30 minutes, operating 24 hours a day.
The bus journey takes about 3.5 to 4 hours or more, with tickets costing around 209 PHP. Choose the larger, air-conditioned bus for a more comfortable ride (there are also smaller local buses with open windows). The bus will stop at the bus station in Moalboal.
Traveling from Cebu to Moalboal is predominantly served by Ceres Buses, with Sugba buses also operating on the same route. Both companies offer similar services to the same destination, so the choice of bus company doesn’t greatly impact your journey. The fare is generally consistent across both. Make sure to get on a bus that is marked as going via Barili and has Bato listed as its final destination. At each door, a ticket assistant is available to check your ticket and guide you accordingly.
Before stowing away larger luggage in the bus’s lower compartment, remember to remove any valuable items like laptops or cameras. Keeping these essentials in a smaller, more accessible bag is a wise precaution.
Roughly 45 minutes before reaching Moalboal, the bus makes a brief pause in Barili. This stop allows passengers to use the restroom (5 PHP) and purchase snacks. My preferred choice is Ube hopia. Vendors frequently board the bus at different stops to sell items like water and snacks. A vendor with a green bucket offers warm, spiced peanuts, a tasty treat for 20 PHP. In Car Car, vendors come on board selling crispy banana chips and the famous Chicharon for 35 PHP, a type of fried pork skin. Chicharon is made from thinly sliced pig skins, cooked and then deep-fried in hot oil, resulting in delicious pork rinds.
The bus journey will conclude at the bus station in Moalboal, which has two main stops: the first at Gaisano Grand Mall, and the second at Jollibee. For those traveling to the Panagsama area, it’s best to alight at the Jollibee stop. If your destination is towards White Beach, then the Gaisano Grand Mall stop is more convenient.
Upon arriving in Moalboal, you can take a tricycle to your destination. The fare to Panagsama is around 100 to 150 PHP, and a motorbike ride (habal-habal) costs about 50 PHP.
For a faster but more expensive option, consider taking a taxi directly from the Mactan airport to Moalboal.
A taxi journey from Mactan Airport to Moalboal typically costs between 2,500 and 3,500 PHP. It’s crucial to agree on the fare with the driver beforehand to ensure clarity. The drive usually takes around 3 hours, depending on traffic, and the cost can be shared among up to four passengers.

In Barili, Cebu, buses make a quick pause, providing a practical chance for passengers to stretch their legs, use the restroom, and grab some quick snacks. From here it typically takes about 1 hour to reach Moalboal, depending on traffic.

Street food, or what we call “carenderia” – in the Philippines, is a vibrant and integral part of the local culinary scene. These are small, family-run eateries that line sidewalks and corners, offering a delightful and affordable way to experience Filipino cuisine. They typically have a variety of pre-cooked dishes displayed in steaming trays, allowing you to choose what tempts you most much like a buffet. Simply point at the dishes you’d like, and the friendly staff will serve you a delicious and personalized meal. Despite their humble appearance, carenderias often serve up some of the tastiest and most authentic Filipino food you can find. Many locals and even tourists seek out carenderias to experience the true flavors of Filipino cuisine in a laid-back and unpretentious setting. Moalboal is a diver’s paradise, offering vibrant coral reefs, dramatic drop-offs, and encounters with sea turtles. One of its must-visit dive sites is Pescador Island, famous for its stunning coral walls, caverns, and diverse marine life.
For beginners without a diving license, a Discovery Dive (or Discover Scuba Diving experience) is the perfect way to explore these underwater wonders. Guided one-on-one by a professional instructor, you can dive up to 12 meters and get a taste of the marine world without committing to a full certification course.
White Beach (Basdaku): The Best Spot for Corals.
If you’re looking for the most vibrant coral reefs in Moalboal, White Beach is the place to be. For the best experience, head down to HK Resort and swim straight out from the beach until you reach the coral wall. Once there, turn left and follow the coral wall for about 0.5 km, marveling at the stunning underwater scenery along the way. Afterward, retrace your path to return. This route offers a breathtaking snorkeling adventure with a mix of vibrant corals and marine life.

Another fantastic snorkeling spot in Moalboal starts at Bigsand Resort and Campgrounds. Park your scooter for just 50 pesos, and they’ll keep an eye on your belongings while you explore. Swim straight out from the beach until you reach the coral wall. From there, turn right and follow the vibrant underwater scenery as you make your way toward Hale Manna Resort. Once you’ve soaked in the marine beauty, turn back and enjoy the journey in reverse.
For visitors to Moalboal, an environmental fee of 100 pesos per person is required, covering access to White Beach (Basdaku) and Panagsama Beach. This fee is split with 25 pesos for White Beach and 75 pesos for Panagsama. Fees are collected on the way to White Beach and at Panagsama, near Veranda Restaurant and Chilli Bar. However, residents of Moalboal are exempt from these fees.

In March 2023, she set a world record for the Constant Weight Bi-Fins discipline in Moalboal, Philippines, successfully descending to an astounding 109 meters
